GEORGE ROWE

ROWE--George, Jr., died August 14, 2014 at the age of 92, following a long illness. He was the senior partner of the law firm of Fulton Rowe & Hart LLP and was the longtime President of The Ambrose Monell Foundation, Inc. and of The G. Unger Vetlesen Foundation, Inc. Mr. Rowe graduated from Yale University in 1943 where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy until 1946 aboard the U.S.S. Birmingham (CL 62) in the South Pacific, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant. After the War, he attended Columbia University Law School, and graduated in 1948. While at Columbia Law, he was recognized as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and was elected an editor of the Columbia Law Review for the 1947-1948 term. Following law school, he joined the firm of Fulton, Walter & Halley (now Fulton, Rowe & Hart LLP). Mr. Rowe served as president and director of Stanrock Uranium Mines Limited and as a director of its successor, Denison Mines Limited. Mr. Rowe also served as a director of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc., Foster Wheeler Corporation and Axe Houghton Mutual Funds. He served for many years as a director and as the Vice President and Secretary of the van Ameringen Foundation, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Joyce C. Rowe, and their daughter Zoe X. Rowe, and also by his three children by a prior marriage, John G. Rowe, Julia T. Rowe and Katharine F. Rowe.
