AARON MALOFF Obituary
Retired Superintendent of Queens High Schools and former Principal of Jamaica High School and John Jay High School, passed away on December 19, 2014 in Bronx, NY surrounded by loving family. A lifelong New Yorker, he was born November 22, 1918, educated in NYC public schools and City College of New York (BA and MA). Served as an Air Force flight navigator in the Pacific during WWII. Taught English, then moved into leadership positions guiding elementary through high schools to excellence and training others to do so. Proudly developed Academic Index to measure and improve school achievement (New York Times January 17, 1984). Predeceased by parents David and Yetta, wife Muriel, brothers Nathan, Rubin and Saul. Left to cherish his memory are his children Laurie (Joel) Kramer, Ellen Case, Peter Maloff (MG Denton); grandchildren Matt Kramer (Katie Barrett), Eli Kramer (Jessica Cordova), Adam Kramer, Ben Case (Jane Morril), Danny Case (Emily Meredith), Meredith Case, Kate Maloff, Michael Maloff; great-grandchildren Caroline, Charlotte, Olivia, Talia, Ella. Also survived by loving companion Cecile Littwin. Services to honor his memory will be held on Sunday December 21, 2014, 2:00pm at Sinai Chapel, 162-05 Horace Harding Expwy, Fresh Meadows, NY. He will be laid to rest at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY. Donations in his memory preferred to ACLU or donor's choice.

i was to the 7th grade "rapid advance" class in jhs 44 in the Bronx in 1947. aaron maloff, recently returned from the war, was, along with another teacher, leonard littwin, a lifelong inspiration. i've never forgotten his enthusiasm, affection and encouragement. he appeared to revel in teaching and found a ready audience, one of which would be grateful throughout her life. to all of you, my condolences. he was truly special.

Other than my father and my husband, Archie was the most important and most influential man in my life. To say he was brilliant would be an understatement. He knew more about education, how to run a school and how to set standards than anyone on the face of the earth. He motivated, he inspired, he challenged, he taught, he coached, he mentored and he made everyone who worked for him stretch to achieve things that they would never have achieved otherwise. Because of him, I achieved things that I never would never have thought imaginable.
I loved him like a second father. He was a wonderful man with a big heart. I will miss him.
My condolences to his family. You were lucky to have him in your lives for such a long time.
