ELHANAN STONE Obituary

STONE--Elhanan C. "Elky", 85, died December 27 of heart failure near his Longboat Key, FL home. He was known in the advertising and entertainment fields as a skilled lawyer, spending 25 years at Ted Bates Worldwide, where he served as executive vice president and general counsel. He led committees of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (4As), negotiating several national contracts with the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). After Ted Bates was acquired, he was of counsel to Hall Dickler Kent Friedman & Wood and Reed Smith LLP, examining diverse topics such as electronic/online rights contracts for advertising performers. He enjoyed skiing with his sons, fishing, sports, a good cigar and traveling the world. An ardent Red Sox fan and proud Boston native, he reveled in the teams World Series championships. He was a dedicated alumnus of Roxbury Latin School, Harvard College and Harvard Law School. Education was another lifelong interest. He was elected president of the Board of Education in Stamford, CT in the 1970s. He served two years in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's office in Germany after graduating law school in 1955 and, later, in the U.S. Department of Justice antitrust division. Survivors include his beloved wife and debate partner, Mimi Stone; son Mark Stone and his wife, Margery, and granddaughters Margaret and Miranda; son Peter "Hopper" Stone and his wife, Shulamis Hirsch; and stepson David Wallace, and his wife, Lauren Goldberg. Other survivors include his brother, Harris Stone, sister, Syril Solomon, and their families. Funeral services are 1pm on Tuesday, December 30 in Newton, MA.

Elky always had wonderful stories! He was a great man! We worked together at Hall Dickler and I became his secretary at Reed Smith. I will miss him and his awesome bear hugs!!!

I am as sorry as I can be to read this news. I remember with great fondness the good times and all the laughs we had as roommates in Adams House. Elky was a super good guy, with an impressive knowledge. He will be sorely missed. My deepest sympathies and condolences to all the family. RIP.
