Stephen Johnson Obituary
Director, Stephen R. Johnson died at age 62 from cardiac complications on Monday January 26, 2015. Stephen was a director of music videos, TV, and commercials and also made a film for Amnesty International of the "Universal Declaration of Human Rights". He won a Grammy Award for the music video Steam by Peter Gabriel in 1994. He won nine MTV awards for directing Sledgehammer in 1986. He directed the first season of Pee Wee's Playhouse, for which he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy award.
Graveside services were conducted near his parent's home in Fort Scott, Kansas. Words of remembrance can be submitted to the online celebration wall at cheneywitt.com.

I knew Stephen at USC. The biggest compliment I can give anyone is to say that they are interesting. Stephen was enormously talented and enormously fascinating. I am sorry to learn of his passing.

Stephen was a real friend to me when I first came to L.A. As busy as he was, he always seemed to have time for me. We shared many special times and I shall miss him indeed.
