STANLEY EGENER Obituary

EGENER--Stanley.

March 31, 1934 - May 30, 2015. "Stan the Man" as he was commonly referred to, was truly beloved by family, friends and business associates. He is survived by his brother George, his two sons Mark and Todd, his wife Jennifer, his five grandchildren Daniel, Matthew, Sarah, Caroline and Elizabeth and his companion of many years, Aline Delbray. Stanley Egener was in the first class of men to graduate from Hunter College in New York. He served as an aviator in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed on the USS Intrepid, now a museum docked in New York. He was an exceptional athlete who played semi-pro football, golf and tennis. He was also an accomplished downhill skier. Stan began his career in finance in 1960 with Dreyfus Corporation and later worked with Oppenheimer. & Co. In 1972 Stan and two colleagues, Arthur Scherl and Richard Bassuk formed "Scherl, Egener & Bassuk" where they created a revolutionary new type of mutual fund called the "Side Fund". The Side Fund was eventually acquired by Neuberger Berman and later renamed the "Partners Fund". Stan joined Neuberger Berman and was instrumental in building their mutual fund business. In 1982, he was elected President of Neuberger Berman Management, Inc. and ultimately became a Partner in Neuberger Berman, LLC. Stan served for many years on the board of the Investment Company Institute and was President of the No-Load Mutual Fund Association. Considered a maverick both professionally and personally, Stanley's genius was his creativity and focus. He will be sorely missed and his life accomplishments will be an inspiration for all of the generations of family that will succeed him. Contributions in his memory to the Taub Alzheimer's Disease Research Institute 630 W. 168th St., PH 19, New York, NY 10032 would be greatly appreciated.

Stan had a great heart and was a joy to work for. He loved his ski jacket and I replaced the zipper in it for him. I'm glad he can over see us, he is one of my guardian angles. Still miss him.

Stanley was unique, one of those people who did it his way.It was always fun and a pleasure to play tennis with him for so many years. Wish he had more time to enjoy the sport he loved. May he finally be in peace. Words cannot lessen the sorrow of losing a loved one. My deepest regrets to the family. May memories keep you close in thought and heart.
