COHEN--Abram D.

With deepest sadness, we mourn the passing of Abram D. Cohen, 91 years old, on February 2, 2016 at his home in Fishkill, NY after a long battle with dementia. Abram was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 25, 1924. He was a devoted husband of his wife Simone for 57 blessed years. Together they have two daughters, Solange and Diane, two sons-in-law Ely and Gary, and three grandchildren, Jonathan, Nina and Daniel. Abram also leaves a sister, Eve Siegel, and a caring and close family of nieces, nephews and cousins. Abram was a veteran of World War II, serving from 1943-1946. A life-long athlete, Abram was an avid and decorated fencer. He competed on the U.S. team in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia, the World Championships in 1958 and 1961, and the Pan American Games in 1955. Abram was the U.S. National Men's Epee Champion in 1955 and 1956. As a collegiate fencer, he was a member of the NCAA Champion CCNY team in 1948 and was inducted into the CCNY Athletic Hall of Fame in 1971. Abram was also inducted into the US Fencing Hall of Fame in 2005. In addition to fencing, he also enjoyed model trains, building intricate displays in his home, and had a great talent for drawing and photography. Abram was a businessman in the paper converting industry. A gentle man, a loving man, a real gentleman! He will greatly be missed by his family and friends.
