ALLAN PILSON Obituary

PILSON--Allan Saunder,

passed away peacefully on December 16, 2016 at the age of 74. An internationally recognized lawyer and the senior partner at the Manhattan law office of Ladas & Parry where he specialized in Latin American/U.S. trademark and copyright law. As a teenager attending A.B. Davis High School in Mt. Vernon, NY Allan was at the center of a vibrant a cappella doo wop music scene singing with a loose knit group of vocalists, including Neil Arena, who eventually recorded as the Mello-Kings. Later in life, Pilson enjoyed a cult following for serenading regulars in spontaneous a cappella duets with long-time friend Arnold Mandell at venues on Manhattan's Upper West Side including Jean Georges, Ouest and Don't Tell Mama's and was prominently featured in many of his son's, artist John Pilson, video works including "Above The Grid" 1999 which includes scenes of Pilson and Mandell in business suits singing a cappella doo wop numbers while strolling the halls of Manhattan's World Trade Center's North Tower. Allan loved sports and was a fan since childhood of his beloved Yankees. He is survived by his wife Laura Messina and her children from a previous marriage Milton and Lorena and his own children from a previous marriage John Pilson and Kimberly Pilson Fitzgerald, grandchildren Jack Minh Pilson, Audrey Mai Pilson and Sylvie Rose Fitzgerald, and his sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Tom Shanker.

I don´t remember if I cried
But my heart kept breaking deep inside, the Day the Music Died.

I´d give the world for one more song.
I pray you´re resting well my brother.
Love
A.

It's been 6 years without my Best Buddy.
How does one wish a peaceful rest to emptiness.
Where there is no longer laughter.
Where there is no longer soul.
Neither here, neither there.
Beyond reach or touch.
Yet I will garnish our memories with blossoms and buds of gold . And nurture my friend's dreams as they would be mine.
And linger at the joy of our time.
Sleep in Peace Pil.

As I write a tearful goodbye, I am reminded of my first meeting with Allen as we stood side by side in a 9th grade chorus group .... we were laughing so hard that we were both told to leave... the love of music and the 50's created a life long friendship filled with fun, family & friends ... I will cherish my fond memories of our accopella duets together forever.... until we meet again to be called upon to perform an encore performance , heaven is in for a real treat... my deepest condolences to the Pilson family sending you all strength and prayer

Like Dennis I also grew up with Allan going to the same schools and playing football together. I remember him as very spontaneous and funny. He came to one of our annual reunion luncheons two years ago and it was great to see and talk to him again. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by all. My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.

I grew up with Allan after he moved to Mt. Vernon. We attended Traphagen School together and AB Davis. We played many hours of basketball together on the playground courts of Traphagen and in the Saturday morning recreation leagues. I went to his Bamitzvah as a teenager. A big deal for an Irish Catholic kid. I last saw Allan at our 50th AB Davis reunion in 2009 as we shared dinner together. After that we chatted on the phone many times and always laughed so much as he was truly a funny person. He to me about his battle with cancer and we reminisced about sleeping in a tent in my backyard once again as teenagers. I saved an e-mail he sent me where he sang with his buddy at the senior homes. I will always treasure that as I have a piece of him to keep. My condolences to the Pilson family. May he Rest In Peace. Dennis O'Keefe
