Each Thanksgiving, Richard invited me to his dinner, and I would invite him to mine. Sadly, the the twain never met on that day. We did, however, regularly share our mutual love of classical music at the New School chamber music concerts. He also "turned me on" to the fine work being done by the Center for Constitutional Rights. He frequently spoke of his love and admiration for his daughter Rebecca. Jerry Moss

My condolences to Richard's family. Richard was passionate about mobilizing for peace and was always there speaking out for as long as he physically could. He will be missed by all of us who knew him in Peace Action. I am glad I got to know him.

So sorry for your loss, may it comfort you to know that others care. Wait on God to erase the effects of sin and death, making eternal life in paradise possible.

Richard Brown was a brilliant and humorous fighter for justice, peace, and equality. He had a deep belief in the potential of the human race to overcome its past and build a great future.

My sympathy to Rebecca, and all of us who feel the loss of Richard. He was a fun guy, with a lively wit, who enjoyed and liked other people. He also made me feel safe, being one of those elders who was always a watchdog for the public good. He generously lent his support to Peace Action Manhattan, faithfully hosting the governance meetings. He continued to pitch in every way he could, long after the fashionable luster had worn off of the anti-war movement.
One memory I shall always treasure is our ongoing dispute over the quality of vocal music. As a musician, Richard was very serious about his likes and dislikes, and opera--especially Italian opera--ABSOLUTELY fell into the latter category.
I kept trying to win him over to the aria: "Have you heard this, Richard; Have you heard that?" and he would invariably respond with an exaggerated grimace and rolling of the eyes.
Richard, may the celestial music be to your taste, and the choirs of angels all play flutes and recorders!

To the Brown Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
