CLOYD LAPORTE Obituary

LAPORTE--Cloyd, Jr.,

passed away peacefully on May 3 at age 91, among family. A WWII vet, he was married for 66 years to his beloved Carel. He is survived by his children, Elizabeth, Maguerite and Cloyd III, and eight grandchildren. He graduated from Exeter, Harvard College and Law School. He was 2nd Lt. Air Corps 1943-46. His career included 27 rewarding years as general counsel for Dover. Respected for his wisdom, ethics and generosity, as well as his sharp memory, intellect and humor, he served as President of his NYC co-op and Gipsy Trail Club, Carmel, NY, and on the board of Putnam Hospital. He enjoyed golf, tennis, cards, chess and travel. He loved language, memorizing most of Shakespeare and writing humorous doggerel. He returned seven years ago to his beloved Exeter, NH, reading the New York Times and doing the crossword daily, playing bridge, poker and pool and enjoying family and friends. Looking back, he told his grandchildren he had a good life. He will be sorely missed. Donations to Save the Children.
