ROBERT ATHANS Obituary
died on May 24, 2017 surrounded by his family after a long and fulfilling life. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years Susan June Carver. Preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Nicholas and Beatrice Athans. He is survived by his four children Susan Alexandra, Robyn Courtney, Byron Carver and Timothy Dwight and nine grandchildren. "Poppy" as he was affectionately known by to his grandchildren graduated in 1951 from Tuckahoe High School. He was a cum laude graduate from Yale University and Cornell Medical School in 1955 and 1959, respectively. Following that he entered private practice, and was a member of the Lawrence Hospital staff for 50 years. He also served as Eastchester Fire Department Surgeon. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, Bronxville on Tuesday, May 30th at 9:45am.

Knew Dr. Athens from working at Lawrence Hospital in the 70's and 80's. Such a kind, caring physician who helped me understand my Dad's heart problems. RIP, Dr. Athens and God bless your family in your time of grief.

Dr. Athans and Susan were a part of my family growing up. He was an amazing, intuitive doctor and when I was very young, 5 or 6 he knew my appendix was about to burst. He took excellent care of me, my brother Russ and sister Dru, and my parents Russ and Priscilla for many, many years. On behalf of my family, we wish to extend our condolences to Susan and her entire family, and thank you, for sharing your wonderful husband with us for so many years

I am so sorry to read of the passing of Dr. Athans. He was my doctor for many years and took care of many problems. I had such faith in him as I'm sure many other patients did. My condolences to his family.
