ROBERT KLIMENT Obituary

KLIMENT--Robert Michael.

Architect Robert Michael Kliment died peacefully at home on 3 June 2017. Born in Prague in 1933, Robert was one of several hundred children whom the humanitarian Sir Nicholas Winton spirited to safety in England during WWII. He was schooled in France and Cuba before studying architecture at Yale (BA, '54, M.Arch '59.) In 1972 he founded Kliment Halsband Architects with his wife Frances. Robert practiced a humanistic architecture that engaged thoughtfully with the past while looking always to the future. His works include the Princeton and Columbia Computer Science buildings, the renovation of Yale Divinity School, and federal courthouses in Brooklyn and Gulfport, MS. He was on the architecture faculties at Columbia and Penn. His firm's many distinctions include the American Institute of Architects' highest honor, the Firm Award. Robert is survived by his wife, Frances, sons Nick and Alex, and grandchildren Sam, Lydia, and Milan.

Dear Frances,
I'm so very sorry to hear this sad news. Robert was a great man and a great architect.

Dear Frances; I am totally shocked and incredibly saddened to read just now of Robert's passing. I am so sorry we had lost touch over the years and in point of fact was hoping to see you and him in July - alas, now not to be. I carry such fond and strong memories of him in Rome during our Fulbright year and those will live on. With my warmest and strongest embrace to you in this sad hour.
