Howard was a dear colleague during the four years (1988-92) I was a faculty member in the English Dept at LIU. We taught together in the Freshman Honors Program, and I enjoyed talking and laughing with him on many occasions during that period. He often mentioned his wife and daughters and how pleased he was when he and Carol moved to Manhattan. I'm sorry to hear of his passing but glad that he had a full life with his loving family. Wishing all of you the best.

Dear Professor,

I'm sorry I never thought to follow up with a visit after my years at LIU. I loved your classes and the talks we had and your genuine interest in my education and well being. You were one of my favorite teachers. Godspeed, Peter

Carol, you and I were friends at LIU, and I was in your husband's class freshman year. He was an extraordinary teacher, and was very kind to a shy student. Though I'm glad to read that you two had a long life and a wonderful family together, I'm sad that he is no longer with you. Jane Leff
