PETER GAGARIN Obituary

GAGARIN--Peter Serge,

a long-term resident of Greenwich, CT died peacefully in his sleep on August 21, 2017. Born in Paris, France on April 29, 1924, he attended St. Paul's School in Concord, NH and graduated from Yale University. During World War II, Mr. Gagarin was a decorated fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force and served in the ETO. After World War II ended, he continued his military flying career as a fighter pilot with the Connecticut Air National Guard. He also kept up his interest in aviation throughout his life and remained an active pilot until his early eighties. Peter had a long career in advertising, as an executive with Ogilvy, Benson and Mather, Benton & Bowles and Young & Rubicam. After several years at Young & Rubicam, he and a partner, Walter Silbersac of Southport, Long Island, left the agency to form a consulting and marketing research firm in which they were active until his retirement in 1995. Following his retirement, he was active as a volunteer at the Greenwich Hospital. He was a life member of the Round Hill Club and an avid, but by his own admission, a less than talented golfer. Predeceased in 2010 by his dear wife of 60 years, Nancy Tyner Gagarin, he is survived by three children Anthony Gagarin and his wife, Nancy, Nina Gagarin, Wendy Weidman and her husband, Michael, four grandchildren, and his beloved companion and canine pal, Archie. A memorial service will be held on October 14 at 1:00pm at the Round Hill Community Church in Greenwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Adopt-A-Dog or your favorite charity would be appreciated.
