I once lived next to Richard and remember most him playing the piano for me. What joy that was. Once, while there he would have me answer his phone & take messages. One day the great Anna Moffo (Sarnoff) called for Richard. Richard is one of those rare talents that the world will not see again. God bless you, Richard. September 20, 2018 Today my voice students at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas will honor Richard with a few of his songs and an audience singalong of Come Ready and See Me. I miss Richard and am trying to instill in my students a passion and sincere regard for observing the careful details he so painstakingly notated in his scores. I'm privileged to sing the song he dedicated to me: Robert Louis Stevenson's "When Children Are Playing Alone on the Green." He said his inspiration for setting this text was his childhood memory of playing alone in his grandmother's backyard. He often set Epitaphs to music. Perhaps his could be Alone No More. So many loved him, we all miss him. Rest in Peace, Blessings, Beverly Hoch

What an honor to have known this remarkable composer! I first met him at his apartment at Westbeth in 2001 when he offered to coach me on his Octaves and Sweet Sounds, - gratis! We kept up correspondence thereafter, and I subsequently invited him to give masterclasses and a lecture on American songs of the 20th and 21st Centuries at Ohio University. Our students were equally moved - and entertained - by his coaching of his own works and those of his contemporaries, many of whom were close friends. He was unique among American song composers and will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace, dear Richard.

Richard and I were dear friends through my years in NYC. We shared our music and art in those years. I have the deepest respect for Richard who lived his creative life as an artist, which fewer than most are able to do. And what beautiful songs came from his unique and significant talent. He was so dear to me and I will miss seeing and listening to him at his keyboard as he would share his latest song with me.
