It was with great sadness that I read of the passing of Sir Neil Waters. Neil was a scholar and a gentleman. He was also a very wise mentor and advisor for me professionally and personally. He has an important enduring national legacy as an academic and scientific leader.

I remember with much thankfulness Sir Neil's charm, academic seriousness, honorable bearing and kindness as a staff member at Massey. His quiet faith and integrity shone out; rare qualities in a person holding high office
