Winifred ASHBY Obituary

ASHBY, Winifred Clare (Winkie) (nee Griffin). Our much loved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and best friend (and loving wife of Kerry who left us in 2015) passed away peacefully on Tuesday 11 December 2018 following a brief battle with cancer.......she's off to swim in another ocean, one where the water sparkles and is always warm. Thanks to everyone for the support to Winkie during her illness, and extra special thanks to the wonderful teams at Harbour Hospice (Hibiscus Coast) and Maygrove Village Hospital - your care for Winkie was beyond words. As per her wishes, Winkie was cremated on Saturday 15 December with a private committal ceremony. An informal celebration of Winkie's life will be held at 2.00pm on Sunday 23 December at Wade Hotel, 2 Tavern Place, Silverdale. Contact Dan (021 682-738) or Kirsten (021 129 4542). Any flowers or donations to Harbour Hospice please. "Miss me a little - but not for long And not with your head bowed low, Remember the love - the fun we shared Miss me but let me go"

Remembered with admiration from late forties when we lived opposite Griffin's Store, Ohaeawai. My father was a Post Office telegraphist and Winkie was a town idol and probably my first hero. I have 'name-dropped'Winkie over the years though never met her since those days.
.Thanks for great memories
