ODESSA Ramon Lopez Marruffo Sr., 75, of Odessa, was carried home by our Heavenly Father on Friday, April 19, 2013 at his daughter's home, with help from Compass Hospice, aiding in his care. He was born August 5, 1937 in Alpine, TX.
He served as an Air Force medic during the Korean War
era and was honored with two Purple Heart
s and several other medals. Throughout his life, Roman became what one would call a "jack of all trades." He worked as a welder, mechanic, gardener, details man for Sewell Ford, construction, an excellent cook, and more. He loved music and dancing. His favorite song was called "Tuff" by Ace Cannon, a song whose name fit him so well! He also loved crossword puzzles, but most of all, he loved his family and friends. He was the kind of man who was willing to help others in need, even if it meant he had to do without. He was a very strong and honorable man, never showing signs of weakness. Ramon was also very straight-forward, and he believed in never giving up. He did not believe in the words "I cannot," it was "try and try again until you succeed." He displayed this strength and quality during his final time here on earth by his willingness to keep fighting through his illness; while at the same time still showing us love, joking and playing, and giving us his smile we all loved so much. He made sure to buy his youngest granddaughters one last gift in memory of him showing his love, and also one last birthday gift for his ex-wife, Rosa, who also assisted in his care.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alcario & Otilia Marruffo; and son, Maximillian Marcos Marruffo.
Ramon is survived by his sons, Joe Marruffo and Larry Marruffo, both of Odessa, Ramon Marruffo, Jr. and Fernando Marruffo, both of San Diego, CA, and Daniel Marruffo of Odessa; daughter, Maria E. Marruffo of Odessa; brother, Rudy Marruffo of Odessa; sister, Mary Rivera of Odessa; 14 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
On behalf of the Marruffo family, we would like to give thanks to everyone who helped in our time of need; Your prayers, kind words, food donations, cards and flowers…God bless you all! We'd also like to offer a special thanks to everyone at Medical Center and Compass Hospice who assisted in Ramon's care. God truly put angels in our path to help care for him. He is loved and will be missed. "I love you Daddy!" –Daddy's girl, Maria Marruffo
