ODESSA Raymond F. Fuqua, a long time resident of Odessa, Texas, passed away on March 5, 2014.
Raymond was born December 31, 1922, in Luling, Texas, to Leslie Fabious Fuqua and Mary Alice Hand.
Raymond served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II
in the South Pacific Theatre. After his discharge in March 1946, he attended Southwest Texas State University at San Marcos, Texas, where in 1949 he received his B.B.A. degree. While in college he met Noveleene Bone, whom he married after her graduation in 1950. Noveleene, the love of his life, preceded him in death April 25, 2005.
After graduation Raymond was employed by Bethlehem Steel in Odessa, Texas, where he and Noveleene made their home. He later was employed by Sinclair Oil and Gas, Kewanee Oil Company and the City of Odessa, where he retired as Director of Finance in 1979.
While with the city his work allowed him to participate in various associations such as the Municipal Finance Offices Association for the United States and Canada, Governmental Accounting and Financial Institute, Texas Association of Assessing Officers, Texas Court Clerk Association, Texas Association of Appraisal Districts and the Public Service Institute of Washington D.C.
Raymond also served as Secretary Treasurer of the Fireman's Pension Board from January 1958 until his retirement in 1979.
Raymond was an avid outdoorsman and spent his time after retirement training and hunting with his bird dogs. Raymond loved the Lord God and was truly an inspiration to everyone that knew him.
Raymond is survived by: daughters, Suzette Pradon and husband Donald of Odessa, Michele Harris and husband Brian of Round Rock, Texas; six grandchildren, Mariah and Bryan Miller of San Antonio, Barrett and Carrie Pradon of Odessa, Macy Harris, Tanner Harris; two great-grandchildren, Reid Miller and Knox Pradon; two sisters, Lillian Clary and Maurine Sorenson.
Family will receive friends Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 6-8pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Celebration of Life will be Friday, March 7, 2014, at 11:00am at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Donations may be made to Hospice House.
