Albert E. "Al" Martin Obituary
TYLER Services for Albert E. "Al" Martin, 74, of Tyler, will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sam Fisher officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.

Mr. Martin passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, at The Hospice of East Texas following a long battle with cancer.
Al was born February 15, 1939, in Madill, Oklahoma, to Albert Ezekiel and Minnie Hendrix Martin. He was a 1957 graduate of Madill High School.

Service to the military was a long tradition in the Martin family; following his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force in 1962 Al and his wife, Linda, began a life of travel and adventure. In 1973, he began his career with Conoco and travel for work took the family around the world beginning in California, to Dubai, Alaska, New Orleans, numerous towns in West, South and Central Texas. Al retired from Conoco in 1999, but his expertise in Safety and Compliance in the oil field allowed him to continue his career as a consultant to many oil service companies, providing them with the necessary training and protocols to qualify to work for various oil companies. That career eventually led to a position with 3S Services in Carrizo Springs, Texas. That position, which he held at the time of his death, was very rewarding both personally and professionally. The company recently dedicated The Al Martin Leadership Center in his honor. Patriotism, Jaycees, Little League Baseball, Special Olympics, golf, fishing, family, music and dancing were all hobbies he enjoyed.

In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by brother, Roy Vernon Martin and sister, Willie "Tootsie" Moore, both of California.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 54 years, Linda Jeane Adams Martin; daughters, Linda Martin Hall and husband Terry Hall of New Orleans and Leann Martin Burns-Johnson and husband Curtis Johnson of Tyler; two grandchildren, Keslea Hall and Martin Burns; sister, Marie Self of Madill, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Daisie Adams; brother-in-law, Jerry Adams and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Douglas Buckley, Gary Lovett, Warren Emerson, grandson, Martin Burns, nephews, Martin Self and Dennis Moore.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephew, Dean Self, Gary Dean, Brandon Webb, Kenneth Griffin and James Sheridan.

Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, one hour prior to service on Friday, August 9, 2013, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at The Hospice of East Texas, The Cancer Center at University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler, MD Anderson Hospital in Houston and to the family and friends who have supported us with prayers and kind gestures during this difficult period.
