MONAHANS Edna Marie Southworth, 93, of Monahans, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Madison Medical Resort in Odessa. |
She was born January 17, 1921, in Taylor, TX, to Rudolph and Dovie (Page) Janek.
She lived the panhandle area of Texas as a child. She graduated from Levelland High School and went on to attend Texas Tech, where she received her certificate in drafting. She worked in Fort Worth and Houston as a draftsman, where she met her husband, Buster Southworth. They were married on November 8, 1947, in Houston. The couple moved to Goldsmith in 1950 and transferred to Monahans in 1962. She owned the TV rental service for Ward Memorial Hospital until 1976. Edna was a member of Ward Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was one of the first volunteers for "Meals on Wheels." She also volunteered at First United Methodist Church for the Rotary Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Buster Southworth; parents, Rudolph and Dovie Janak; brothers, Clifton Janak and Johnnie Janak; and sister, Mable Johnson.
Edna is survived by her daughter, Benita Wright and husband Paul of Odessa; granddaughter, Jamie Vaughan of Lubbock; great-grandson, Zac Vaughan of Lubbock; numerous nieces and nephews; and many longtime acquaintances of Monahans.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014, from 6 – 8 PM at Harkey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 21, 2014, at 10 AM at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Beth Harrington officiating. Burial will follow at Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Whitaker, Randy Chance, Richard Smith, Martin Gonzales, Matthew Gonzales, and Adrian Gonzales.
Harkey Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
