ODESSA Dr. J.R. (Randy) Haywood passed away Saturday, November 24, 2012, surrounded by family. After attending the University of Texas at Austin for pre-dental courses, he graduated from Baylor University School of Dentistry in December 1950. He married Betty Ruth Connell in August 1950 in Sweetwater, Texas. The couple moved to Odessa, where Randy opened his dental practice in October 1952. He practiced dentistry for 57 years, until his retirement in August 2009.|
He is survived by Betty Haywood, his wife of 62 years. He is also survived by four children: Jan McDaniel and husband, Wes, of Colleyville; Dr. David Haywood and wife, Lea, of Rowlett; Jim Haywood of Odessa; and Joy Young and husband, Dr. Dean Young, of Waco. Randy served in every office in District 21C of the Texas Dental Society. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and served as a deacon as well as a member of many committees there. He also taught Sunday school and served the Lord in the Prayer Room and the homebound ministry. In addition, he made three mission trips to Mexico, where he helped improve people's health as a dentist.

He was a blessing to all who knew him, a generous and loving man, and an example of the Christ-filled life.
