CORPUS CHRISTI Yancy M. Hilburn, 86, passed peacefully on August 23, 2014, after a 13 year battle with Alzheimers. |
He was born in Plain Dealing, Louisiana to Yancey Malcolm and Lillie Savanah Hilburn on May 9, 1928.
He spent his childhood in Sarepta, Louisiana. He grew up helping his family make a living by chopping cotton. Yancy was the youngest of twelve children. He went to Northwestern Louisiana University on a track scholarship then proudly served in the Air Force. He married Helen Verhasselt in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1951. They had two children, Carol Richter (Bobby) from Port Aransas and Beth Littlejohn (Les) from Odessa.
In 1971, Yancy co-founded H&S Valve Inc., a compressor valve manufacturing and repair business in Odessa, Texas. Yancy loved football, especially high school football. He enjoyed attending the Odessa Permian Panther football games in the 6O's and 7O's.
Yancy never met a stranger. Even as his health deteriorated, he was affable and up for anything. His caretakers dearly loved him as he was jovial and willing to try any task.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Mike Neff and his staff, the wonderful people at Homewood Residence and the incredibly caring group at Trisun Westwood and Altus Hospice.
