ODESSA Alvey Bass was born in 1958 in Fort Sumner, N.M., grew up in House, N.M. and graduated from Melrose High School in 1976.|

He later attended New Mexico State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering in 1981. After graduation he began his 22 year engineering career with Halliburton. He eventually left Halliburton to become an independent petroleum consultant in 2007, and remained in that capacity until he passed.

He continued serving the Boy Scouts of America even after his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout and transitioned to adulthood. He was also very involved with his church, Tanglewood Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon.
His character could best be summed up by always being prepared and giving to others but was never known to lean on others.
