Clifford Clements Obituary

POTOSI Clifford James Clements went home to be with the Lord Sunday, April 27, 2008, after a long courageous battle with cancer. (His passing was just before the sunset or sunrise).

He was born in Abilene, Texas, on September 16, 1932. He grew up in Ovalo, Texas, under the watchful eye of his parents, Charlie and Willie Belle Clements. Immediately graduating from Ovalo High School, Cliff joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Korean War aboard the USS Floyd Bay. He met the love of his life, Margie Hobbs and the two were married June 3, 1955, and he completed his 4 years of service with the Navy in San Diego, California.

While attending Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, he played football under Coach Sammy Baugh. He also managed the Thornton's Super Market and then later worked for S.C. Johnson and Son for 28 years before retiring in 1991.

Cliff had a generous spirit and knew the meaning of friendship. He has impacted the lives of countless people through the years. His contagious personality and passion for life made him a person who touched the hearts of many people. Cliff was a man of high integrity who put his Lord first and then his family. He was always active in church work and the young people's programs. He was a Charter member of two missions in Abilene and Lubbock, Texas. He was an active member of Crescent Park Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Director and he loved visiting for the church.

He was a member of the Permian Basin Genealogical Society, Travelers Protective Association of America and the Gideons.
Survivors include his wife, Margie; one son, Michael Clements of Plano; one brother, Robert Clements of Arlington; one sister, Sybil Ramey of Abilene; several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, Charlie and Willie Bell Clements; one daughter, Deborah Clements Watters; one son, David Lynn Clements.

Our lives are indelibly marked with his honesty, generosity, and love for his family. The family cannot express in mere words their appreciation to staff of Dr. Liu, Dr. George and Medical Oncology Cancer Center, and Medical Center Hospital for their kindness expressed to us during this time, Crescent Park Baptist Church and friends and co-workers.

A family visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2008, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

A Celebration of his life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Crescent Park Baptist Church with Rev. David Miller officiating.

Visitation will be in Abilene, Texas from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Hamil Family Funeral Home, and Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Potosi Cemetery in Potosi, Texas.

Mrs. Clements - I will always remember you and Mr. Clements from the days when I sat behind you at the OHS football games with my parents in the 70's. I was the one who yelled so loud. When I saw his picture in the paper today, his smile jumped out at me and brought back all the fun times we had in the football stands. May God bless you during this difficult time til you meet again.

Dear Margie,

I grew up with Clifford in Ovalo. All of the comments written about Clifford are so true. I know you are going to miss him. The world was a better place while he was here.

Darling Margie....it is the hardest thing in the world to lose someone you love.....if there were anything in this world that I could do to make it any better....I would do it. But know that Ray and I love you very much and are so grateful for the time we did get to spend together. The world has lost a very, very, good man.....and we can ill afford to lose even one. He loved God and it was returned. We are here for you and you only have to call us and we will be there in a minute. Family is so important and I am so glad he put us together as family while we still had time...Ray and Paula Meyer

Dear Margie,
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, but we know that Cliff's passing is his ultimate victory. He is in a place far better than this world could ever offer, but I know that doesn't help the sadness you feel. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
