ODESSA George Richard Brown-devoted husband, doting father, proud Marine, loving relative, and generous friend-went home to be with the Lord on Good Friday, March 30, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by those he loved while in the expert care of his doctors and the staff of Odessa Medical Center Hospital.|
George, the second of eight children, was born to James Edgar and Rose Brown on July 18, 1929 in Maud, Oklahoma. Odessa, Texas became home from a young age, and it was in his adopted hometown where his keen sense of adventure was nurtured. Eager to see the world, he joined the armed forces in 1948. He served sixteen years with distinction in the Marines and five years in the Army, and received commendations, including The Purple Heart and The Bronze Star Medal, for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest.
George is survived by his wife of 44 years Soon "Kim" Brown and his daughter Patsy Brown. He also leaves behind one brother M.J. "Jay" Brown of Odessa, two sisters Patsy Brown Terry of Odessa and Cookie Brown Murphy of Houston, as well as many beloved nephews, nieces, other relatives, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Doyle Brown and Thomas Ray Brown, and two sisters, Lorraine Brown Grace and Bonnie Brown.
