LUBBOCK Having been privileged to live a long, productive life, blessed by God's grace and a loving family, Henrietta "Jane" Waller Hopper Crain was called by our Lord and Savior into His Heavenly Kingdom on June 18, 2009.
Jane was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Rowena, Texas, the daughter of Charles and Annie Ripple Waller. Jane's father immigrated to America from Czechoslovakia as a young man. She honored her Czech heritage, singing and speaking in Czech and baking delicious Czech dishes for her family. Jane was the ultimate lover of the outdoors, going on daily walks all her life. She was an avid gardener filling her yard year after year with beautiful flowers and bounty of fresh vegetables.
Widowed at an early age by Bill Lewis Hopper of Priddy, Texas, Jane worked as a nurse in Midland, Texas, for 14 years to raise and support her three children, Bettye, Bill and Roy. In 1964, Jane married the late L.D. Crain and moved with her family to Lubbock, Texas. While in Lubbock, Jane was an active member of the Shepherd of the Plains Lutheran Church. Jane's greatest joy in life was to be surrounded by her family. Jane was the most loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by her daughter, Bettye Hopper Davis and husband, Richard, of Odessa, Texas; sons, Bill R. Hopper and wife, Sally, of Arlington, Texas, and Roy J. Hopper and wife, Marilyn, of Lewisville, Texas; cherished grandchildren, Karen Byrd of Lakewood, Calif., Darren Byrd and wife Dana of Big Spring, Texas, Jenna Hopper of Fort Worth, Texas, Mark Hopper of Dallas, Texas, Holly Hopper of Irving, Texas, Matt Hopper of Arlington, Texas; her five precious great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Analysia, Alex, Jonathan and Mateo, all of Big Spring, Texas; sisters, Helen Waller Thomas and her husband, Roy, of Grand Prairie, Texas, Adaline Waller Barnes and husband, Gary, of Plainview, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at 1 p.m. at Resthaven Memorial Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Hospice House Foundation Inc., 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas, 79761, in honor of Henrietta Jane Crain.
