ODESSA Juan "Sony" Barrientez, Jr., of Odessa (El Ranchito), Texas, passed away on January 12, 2013, at the age of 61. He was born on November 22, 1951, in Big Spring, Texas, to Juan Barrientez, Sr. and Delia (Zapata) Barrientez. Sony grew up in Odessa where he attended schools. He worked as a machinist for Progressive for a number of years, in Arlington, and moved to Colorado where he last worked. Sony enjoyed working out and all outdoor activities.
He is survived by his children, John Munoz and wife Raquel of Wylie, Texas, Laura Villegas and husband Javier of Wylie, Texas and Jimmy Barrientez of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Alexandrea and Breana Nicole Villegas, Anthony, Nicolas and Diego Munoz; mother, Delia and step-father, Johnny Subia of Odessa, Texas; father, Juan Barrientez Sr.; of Odessa, Texas; brothers, Andy Maldonado of Snyder, Texas, Manuel Barrera, Adrian Barrera and Paul Barrera of Odessa, Texas; sisters, Margaret Kraft of West Worth, Texas, Sophia Lujan of Sunnyvale, California, Rosa Barrera, Delia Barrera, Angela Hernandez, Priscilla Rodriguez and Delores Rodriguez, all of Odessa, Texas, Helen Martinez of Fort Worth, Texas; and a host of other family and friends.
Sony is preceded in death by brothers, Alfred Barrera, Abraham Barrera Jr., Jimmy Barrera; and sister, Olivia Kruse.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel, in Allen, Texas. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park, in Allen, Texas. The family will receive friends at a visitation, on Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
