Martha Mae (Phillips) Carter Obituary
ODESSA - Martha Mae Carter, 86 years old, passed away at Parks Methodist after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Martha's maiden name was Martha Mae Phillips.

She is survived by her two sons, Carl Johnson of Odessa and Stephen Gibbs of Mesquite, Texas; two brothers, Anthony Phillips and Vernon Phillips of California; two granddaughters, Carla Johnson of Midland and Sarah Johnson of Odessa; one great granddaughter, Lillie Mae of Midland; a great friend, Peggy Lane of Odessa.

Martha was born July 19, 1932 in Pittsburg City, Oklahoma. Martha never graduated school she had to quit in the 8th grade to support her family. Her first husband Floyd Johnson was killed in a tragic accident and was struck in Midland. She met Toby Gibbs remarried and relocated to Odessa where she worked several jobs until getting on the board at Medical Center Hospital as a bookkeeper. Martha retired from Medical Center after several years. She then became a volunteer for years before she was diagnosed with dementia.

She was a good mother, but strict. She loved her grandkids to the max and spoiled them at the same capacity. Martha had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir for decades. She was also a great seamstress. She was generous and she loved old Hymns and George Jones. She was a member at Crescent Park Baptist Church since the 1970's.

Special thanks to Parks Methodist where she was a resident for ten years. Thanks to the special care she received along with the cleaning crew who always loved on her and kept her room clean.

Visitation will be held at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home on Thursday, October 4, 2018 from 6 pm - 8pm. Graveside service at Sunset Memorial Gardens is set for Friday, October 5, 2018 at 11:00 am Reverend Matt Wilson will be officiating.
