MONAHANS William Thomas (W.T.) Rymer, 84, of Monahans, TX, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012, surrounded by the daughters who loved him dearly. |
W.T. Rymer was born on April 13, 1928, as the first of seven children to Ira and Willie Baker Rymer in Crab Orchard, TN. He graduated from Crossville High School, attended Tennessee Tech University, and obtained his private pilot license. W.T. married the love of his life Stella Mae (Susie) Rogers on March 10, 1949.
In 1951, W.T., Susie, and daughter JoAnne left Tennessee and moved to McCamey, TX, where W.T. began a career that lasted 32 years with The National Supply Co., and they welcomed daughters, Patsy & Sue. In 1953 they were transferred to Monahans where he watched his family grow with the birth of two more girls, Sandy & Joy. There was never a lack of love or tea parties or dress-up in the Rymer household. W.T. gave everyone in the family a nick name, and this practice continued on with his son-in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In the mid-70's he purchased the original town site of Duster in Comanche Co, TX, and built a weekend retreat for the family and "to raise hamburgers and french fries". There was always something to do, build fences, work on the water well, clear brush with the tractor, but most important to W.T. was just the time being with family. He loved to work with his tractor, camping and travel, so long as it included family.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ira and Willie Rymer, wife Susie Rymer and brother Harold Rymer and is survived by his five daughters and the best son-in-laws he could ever wish for (or so they told him), 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His daughters and son in laws are JoAnne & Mike Oliver of Borger, TX; Patsy & Roger Lyles of Burns Flat, OK; Sue Hayes of Monahans, TX; Sandy & Jeff Gibbs of Estero, FL; Joy & Richard Melius of Ft. Stockton, TX. Grandchildren are Amanda Ferrell, Wendi Johnson, Lynn Lyles, Canon Lyles, Hillary Hawkins, Marla Austin, Lanny Hayes, JR Gibbs, Charlie Gibbs, Dani Mills, Haleigh Melius, and Suzy Melius. He is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth Rymer & Bobby Rymer and three sisters Jenny Newcomb, Carol Estes & Linda Brookshire.
W.T. had resided in Monahans for the past 59 years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Monahans. He was a 32nd degree Mason and had been a Lodge member for 58 years.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Monahans under the direction of Harkey Funeral Home.
Interment will follow in Monahans Memorial Cemetery.
