ODESSA Janice Sue Alsup, 86 of Odessa died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Sienna Nursing Home. |
Janice was born in Kenlock, Oklahoma on March 3, 1924, to George Barnes and (Effie) Purser Barnes. She was homemaker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Highland United Methodist Church.
She met and married the love of her life, Harold Alsup, in Dec. 1941, and were married one week later on Christmas Day. Harold left within one week of the marriage for service in the US Army during World War II and was gone for four years. Upon his release from the service in 1945 they moved to Odessa and started their family. They had three children, Terry, Vicki and Micki. They were marred for 62 years until Harold's death in 2003.
In 1981 they retired to Lake Brownwood where they lived for 20 years before returning to Odessa to be closer to their children.
Janice was preceded in death by her father, mother, brother, George Barnes and loving husband Harold.
Janice is survived by son, Terry Alsup and wife Gail of Las Vegas, Nevada, Vicki Thornton and husband Larry of Odessa, Micki Barnett and husband Ronnie of Odessa. Brothers Bill Barnes, of Oklahoma and Doyle Barnes of Weatherford, and sister Oteka Sprague of Austin. She is also survived by six granddaughters, Marlo Crow (Guy) of Bedford, Julie Terry (Jerry) of Wylie, Joni Jensen (Scott) of Willis, Andrea Trotter (Charlie) of Ft. Worth, Jenni Gutierrez (Al) and Kelli Barnett both of Odessa, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors on Tuesday, March 1st from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
