KERRVILLE John E. Hansen, age 87, passed away peacefully with his family at his home in Kerrville, TX on April 3, 2012. He was born in Chicago, IL to John E. Hansen and Ellen Marie Lindahl on September 14, 1924. |
He attended Roosevelt High School in Chicago, and later played football at Northwestern University. He graduated in 1947 from the University of Colorado with a BS in Business. His college career was interrupted by WWII where he proudly served in the Pacific as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He joined Pan American Oil Co. in Houston, in 1949 where he fell in love with the oil business. He moved to West Texas in the early 50s and helped found the American Association of Professional Landmen in 1955. His career in the oil business spanned more than fifty-five years where he created hundreds of life-long friendships.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elsa Whitt.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ivy Hansen; four sons and three daughters-in-law, John Richard and Glena Hansen of Denver CO, Michael and Dianne McHugh of Uvalde, TX, Mark and Diane McHugh of Orlando, FL and James Hansen of Midland, TX. He is also survived by seven wonderful grandchildren, Alise, Zane and Tyrell Hansen and Ryan, Chelsea, Avery and Taylor McHugh.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the Trinity Baptist Church in Kerrville, with Rev. Chris Christopherson officiating. Inurnment will follow at 3:00 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Honor of John E. Hansen to the Peterson Hospice House Building Fund at 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028 or to the Trinity Baptist Primetime Choir at 800 Jackson Rd., Kerrville, TX 78028. They also wish to extend their sincere gratitude to the very special nurses and caregivers of Peterson Hospice.
