MIDLAND Mary Katherine "Kathy" Blackwell, 72, of Midland, passed from this life on August 26, 2013, in Lubbock, Texas. She was born December 10, 1940, in Cuero, Texas, to Bill and Venice (Waters) Sibley.
She married William Blackwell, June 23, 1985, in Midland, Texas. She attended Odessa College and received her RN degree in 1973. She was a charge nurse in the surgical unit at Midland Memorial Hospital for many years. Mary Katherine had a servant's heart and will be remembered for her generosity and eagerness to go above and beyond to help others and her compassion for animals. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by parents, two brothers, Lamar Tolson and W. L. Sibley.
She is survived by her husband, William, sons, David Bruce and wife Diana Blackwell, Ronnie Paul and Karen Blackwell and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by son, Steve Elvin York of Midland, daughter, Kathy Ann Bobbitt and husband Roy of Odessa, and five grandchildren, Will Hodges, Jordana Hodges, Nathan Bobbitt, Kyle York and Scout York, as well as four great-grandchildren, and also survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Sibley, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Family will receive friends, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, from 5pm to 8pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Graveside will be 2:30pm Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be 4:30pm Thursday, August 29, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Midland, officiated by Andy Hill.
Contributions may be made to the SPCA.
Services are entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
