Betty Jo Nicholas Obituary
ODESSA Betty Jo Nicholas, age 83, died Sunday, March 9, in Plano, Texas. She was born June 27, 1930, in Eastland, Texas, the daughter of Richard and Frances (Brunette) Rutherford.
Betty was a long time Odessa resident. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1946 and after graduation worked for the catalog order department at Sears and Roebuck for several years. She later worked as a deputy tax assessor for the Ector County Tax Office for 27 years until her retirement. She was a member of Odessa's First Baptist Church, the Odessa Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Business Women Association. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time doting on her children and grandchildren.
On July 4, 1948, she married Burl Nicholas of Odessa. He preceded her in death on July 15, 1999.
Survivors include one daughter, Darlyne Ervin and husband Andy of Andrews, Texas; one son, Nick Nicholas and wife Mary Ann of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob Rutherford of Odessa, who died in 2001.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials are suggested to the Odessa Meals on Wheels Program in care of Sunset Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6801 Business Interstate 20- E, Odessa, TX 79762.
