ODESSA Charlie Robert Waid, or Bob, as he was fondly known by family only, went to meet our Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the age of 82. He passed away at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, TX, after a lengthy illness.|
He was born at home in Hunt County, Texas, on February 17, 1932, with his parents, Norene Traylor and Charlie R. Waid III and family. They moved to Odessa, TX, in May 1951, where he met and married the love of his life, Florrie Bell "Flo" Petrey on June 14, 1952.
He served in the U.S. Army between 1952-1954, during the Korean War.
After serving his country, he opened and owned an auto body repair shop. He later became an insurance agent and adjuster. In 1974, he started Charlie Waid Insurance Agency and continued to serve his customers until his death.
He was a proud member of the Eagles Lodge for 42 years, since 1972, serving as their president from 1983-1984.
He was a dedicated member of the Chuck Wagon Gang since 1990.
As a child he worshipped at the Methodist Church with his grandparents. With his wife, 2 young sons, and mother-in-law, he attended the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Charlie R. "Bobby" Waid V and wife, Janet of Katy, TX, and Bryan Ross Waid and wife, April of Temple, TX. His 6 grandchildren whom he loved dearly are Charlie R. "Bobby" Waid VI, Joseph Glen "Joey" Waid, Jessica Lindsay Waid, Jennifer Mae Waid, Bryan Ross Waid Jr., and Delaney Annabella Waid. He has one precious great-grandchild, Sarah Mae Wiggins. His sisters are Gwen Nelson of Greenville, TX, Margaret Prince and husband, Harold of Andrews, TX, Sue Moore of Noble, OK; sister-in-law, Shelby Waid of Carlisle, Arkansas; brothers, Gerald Waid of Burnet, TX, Ken Waid and wife, Peggy of Georgetown, TX, Jim Waid and wife, Pat "Cricket" of Leander, TX.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florrie Bell "Flo" on April 2, 2007; parents, Norene Traylor Waid on January 4, 1983, and Charlie R. Waid III on October 15, 1984; brother, Alfred Wayne Waid on March 3, 2009; and infant brother, Carol Eugene Waid.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Thursday, April 10, 2014, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm Friday, April 11, 2014, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Reception following at Sunset Country Club catered by Odessa Chuck Wagon Gang.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
