Mary Catherine Smith Obituary
ODESSA Mary Catherine Smith, age 81, of Odessa, passed from her earthly life to go on to eternal glory on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Parks Methodist Retirement Village.

She began this earthly journey on September 15, 1932, in Munday, Texas, born to the late Charles Alfred and Lona (Roy) Welborn.

On February 8, 1952, Mary Catherine and Morris Reid Smith, Jr. married and began their family. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Catherine was a member of Sherwood Church of Christ.

Catherine's favorite verse in the Bible was James 1:27 – "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world." This was the code she lived by. Her love for children was demonstrated by her actions, taking in children from the children's home for holidays and visiting them at the children home.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Marilyn Smith Hancock and husband Roger of Odessa, Morris Alfred "Al" Smith and wife Tammy of Odessa, and Marci Smith Key of Houston; ten beloved grandchildren: Melissa Hancock Williams, Jon-Eric Hancock, Megan Smith, Asia Smith, Michelle Escobedo, Austin Escobedo, Justin Escobedo, Brandon Hollis, Nicholas Davis, and Dillon "Doc" Davis; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Betty Sammann and Verlene Williams, both of Lubbock.

Her parents, husband: Morris Reid Smith, Jr., and two brothers: Tommy and Alfred Welborn, precede her in death.

Memorial services to honor Mary Catherine's memory will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Sherwood Church of Christ, 4900 Dixie Boulevard, Odessa, officiated by Brother Lynn Money.

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and Crematory and condolences may be sent to the family online at acreswestfuneral.com.
