1935 - 2009 Obituary Condolences
ODESSA Gaylon Clark Whitley, "PaPa," left this world to join his Heavenly Father on Monday morning, Feb. 16, 2009.

Gaylon was born April 2, 1935, in Crowell, Texas (God's Country), to Oscar and Minnie Whitley. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sherry Elizabeth Whitley; his father, Oscar Whitley; his mother, Minnie Clifton Whitley-Atchley, both of Crowell, Texas; his brothers, Doyle Whitley of Crowell, Texas, and W.T. Whitley of Amarillo, Texas; his sisters, Bobbie Ruth Fly-Kelly and Willie "Louise" Eby, both of Odessa, Texas.

Gaylon was raised Baptist. He was saved and baptized at an early age. He was the baby of a family of eight, with two sisters, and five brothers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR, football, BBQs, playing softball, camping, having coffee at Pojo's and family.

He joined the Navy in October 1955, Company 625, with an honorable discharge in October 1961.

Gaylon married the love of his life, Sherry Elizabeth Haseloff on June 22, 1962. From the marriage two children were born, Gay "Lynn" and Chad Allen Whitley. They moved from Nevada to Odessa in 1970. They were married 25 years.

Gaylon retired from Texaco after 22 years of service in 1992. He kept busy by working with his sisters doing estate sales and traveling.

Gaylon is survived by his children: his daughter, Gay "Lynn" Whitley-Rogers and husband Jerry Don Rogers; his son, Chad Allen Whitley, of Odessa, Texas; his grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Rogers and Jared Cade Rogers, both of Odessa, Texas, Travis Rogers and wife Jessica, Kaylee Raelyn Rogers, both of Andrews, Christy Lynne Henderson and husband Gerald of Odessa; two great-grandchildren, Kalli Jo Rogers of Andrews and Conner Levi Henderson of Odessa; and three brothers, J.W. Whitley, Bill Whitley and Ace Whitley, all of Crowell.

Gaylon also leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, dear friends and classmates, and all of his coffee buddies.

There will be a celebration of Gaylon's life at Antioch Christian Church, officiated by Don Fankhouser, on Wednesday, February 18 at 2 p.m., with a reception following. Burial will follow the next day at the Foard County Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
