Carole Cole Engle

Carole Cole Engle, 73, of Oceanside, Calif., passed away unexpectedly Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014.She was born September 28, 1940, a daughter of James H. and Catherine Taylor Cole.She graduated from Trinity High School in 1958, attended Penn Commercial Business School and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.On June 11, 1961, she married Bruce K. Engle, who survives.After completing her enlistment in the Air Force, she received a degree in early childhood development from California State University, Haywood. She worked in the financial aid department of California State, Hayward, was director of financial aid at the College of Notre Dame, Belmont, Calif., and for the U.S. Government's Department of Education in San Francisco, Calif., reviewing financial aid programs throughout the western United States and Hawaii.She loved to read, travel, garden, cook, sew and care for her husband. She quilted and made beautiful wall hangings for family and friends. She and her husband traveled to several countries. With her sister, Linda, and husband, she traveled along the East and West coasts of the United States and into Canada for the World's Fair and to the islands of Maui, Oahu and Hawaii. Mrs. Engle and her husband also camped with her sister, Faye, and her husband, and went to Europe with her niece, Diane. They invited family and friends to join them at their time share on the island of Hawaii.Also surviving are three brothers, James (Nancy) Cole of Virginia Beach, Va., John (Tess) Cole and Charles (Michele) Cole, both of Prosperity; three sisters, Linda (James) Ramey and Ida (Russell) Bryner of Prosperity, and Faye (Peter) Hoffoss of Lino Lakes, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.Deceased, along with her parents, is a sister, Mary (Arley) Weaver of Lone Pine.A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 7, in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 200 Banetown Road, Amity.
