Shirley Ann Guthrie, 76, of Centerville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, in Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Jefferson Hills.She was born December 26, 1937, in Brier Hill, a daughter of the late John and Mary Votano Croftcheck.Mrs. Guthrie was a 1956 graduate of Uniontown High School. After graduation, she worked in a factory, making bombs to aid the war effort during the Korean War.She was a self-employed entrepreneur, owning and operating several area businesses.Mrs. Guthrie was a member of Garwood Baptist Church, Daisytown.She enjoyed quilting, sewing and attending numerous sewing and quilting club events. Her quilting gained her numerous awards in competitions in county and state fairs. She was also a very talented cook and a devoted mother and grandmother. Shopping and walking for exercise brought her special enjoyment.On June 11, 1955, she married Charles S. "Skip" Guthrie, who died October 31, 1994.Surviving are four children, Curtis Guthrie (Jennifer Schmidt) of Centerville, Sharon Konwinski (Robert) of Bradford, Edward Guthrie (Olivia) of New Freeport and Kathy Semshack-Gizzie (Gary) of Richeyville; 10 grandchildren, Michele, Eddie, Joe, Wyatt, Rylie, Kenny, Steven, Crystal, Sydney and Shane; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Croftcheck (Carol) of Uniontown; a sister, Mary Jane Craft (Robert) of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews.Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two brothers, John and Edward Croftcheck, and two sisters, Pauline Bryson and Betty Lou Moore. A brother, Eugene, died in infancy.Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday in John B. Greenlee Funeral Home, 2830 Main Street, Beallsville, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 6, with John Sweany officiating. Interment will follow in Taylor Cemetery, Brownsville.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the JEN Fund (Joyful Exciting New Day), 42 Black Dog Hollow Road, Clarksville, PA 15322.
