Edward Lawrence Franko, 84, of Wind Ridge, died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2014, in his home.
He was born Thursday, January 9, 1930, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Albert L. Franko and Anna Petrous Franko.
Mr. Franko's baptism was at St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg. He was a 1948 graduate of Canonsburg High School.
Mr. Franko was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Marines.
He was one of three of the first coaches of Wind Ridge Little League baseball and T-ball. He was a member of the Aleppo and State granges.
Mr. Franko was an avid hunter and pool shooter, having belonged to two leagues in Waynesburg.
He owned and operated Empire Service as an appliance repair tech from 1964 to 1992.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Cox Franko, whom he married May 18, 1978, in Lancaster City.
Also surviving are eight children, Ruth Ann (Ronald) Jacobs of New Freeport, George E. Franko of Wheeling, W.Va., Richard D.(Melissa) Franko of Twin Rocks, Amy L.(Terrie) Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Heather Cox of Wind Ridge, Renee (Thomas) McConnell of Washington, Sandy (and the late William) House of Little Mountain, S.C., and Michael Franko of Bridgeville; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Markovich of Catawba, N.C., and Joyce Franko of Canonsburg; two brothers, William (Gerrie) Franko of Westland, Mich., and Jerome (Cathy) Franko of Buffalo, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Judy Carroll, and a brother, Albert Franko.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time of a prayer service, Friday, June 20, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370, with Father Richard J. Thompson as celebrant. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
