Charles Edward Cox Sr., 89, of Washington, died Saturday, August 16, 2014, in his home.
He was born December 1, 1924, in Struthers, Ohio, a son of Lloyd Louis and Hazel Viola Ferguson Cox.
Mr. Cox retired in 1979, after 36 years as a rural postal carrier.
During World War II, he served for three years in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded several service medals, including the Purple Heart, following being wounded.
His favorite hobby was woodworking, and he enjoyed listening to and playing country music.
On April 13, 1972, he married Rita Pearl Lemasters, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, C. Edward Cox Jr. of Prosperity and Donald Cox of Bethesda, Ohio; four daughters, Donna Callihan of Little Rock, Ark., Tina Comfort of Washington, Tammy Marshall of Karns City and Jody Welch of Cecil Township; two brothers, Lloyd Louis Cox Jr. of Fredericksburg, Va., and Harry Cox of Elizabethton, Tenn.
Deceased are a son, Robert Cox, and two sisters, Ellen Pierson and Esther Mosley.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 7 p.m., the time of service, Monday, August 18, in Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W. Hummell, supervisor, Douglas M. Jones, director, with Chaplain Keith Meier officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
