James Dallmeyer Obituary

James Gottlieb Dallmeyer, 94, of Washington, died Sunday, November 1, 2015, in his home.
He was born August 22, 1921, in Cross Creek Village, a son of William Frederick Dallmeyer and Anna Mary Johnston Dallmeyer.
Mr. Dallmeyer was a 1939 graduate of Hickory High School.
Following his graduation, he worked in the oil fields in Michigan with his dad and brother until he entered military service in September 1942. He served in North Africa in the U.S. Army Air Forces communication system until his honorable discharge as a first lieutenant in March 1946.
Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was a heavy equipment and truck operator. He was employed by Oscar Jackson of Burgettstown, John Cowden of Hickory, Suwak Trucking, Lighting Express, McClean Trucking and Russell Industries.
A member of Hickory Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Mr. Dallmeyer served his church as an elder, deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He was also a member of the church choir for 40 years.
Mr. Dallmeyer was a member of Mt. Pleasant Township Historical Library Association, Washington County Historical Society and Hickory High School Alumni Association.
He enjoyed his family, board games, crossword puzzles, sports, music, reading and traveling. He and his wife were 25-year members of Wally Byam Caravan Club. They traveled to all 50 states and several countries overseas.
On March 15, 1944, he married Elizabeth "Bettie" Viola Dinsmore, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three daughters, Linda Hutchison of New Brunswick, N.J., Lois Nesbitt of Murrysville and Leah (Arnold) Lewis of Sissonville, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Annie Shipman, Sarah Hutchison, Bonnie Nesbitt, Robin Nesbitt, Allison Lewis and Andre Lewis; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rachael and Caleb Shipman.
Deceased are four sisters, Myrtle, Viola, Dorothy and Ruth, and a brother, William.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. An additional visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Friday, November 6, in Hickory Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 210 Main Street, Hickory, with the Rev. Lou Templeton officiating.
