ELDON CLARKE, 90
Ocala - Eldon Clarke Kunze, 90, of Ocala, died on Thursday, November 8, 2012.
Eldon was born in Paterson, NJ in 1922 and lived in Belleville, NJ until he left for college. He graduated from the University of Alabama and immediately served in the European Theater during World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Corp. rising to the rank of Captain. He had a lifetime of experience during the war including the Battle of the Bulge and the Trials at Nuremberg. Eldon received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
Upon his return from the war, Eldon married his hometown sweetheart, Doris Davis, in 1946 and lived in Packanack Lake of Wayne, NJ. He worked at New Jersey Bell for 37 years; retiring as a Community Relations Manager. He was an active member of many service organizations, including terms as president of a Kiwanis Club, Lions Club, and Chamber of Commerce. Eldon and Doris retired in 1983 and lived in Hilton Head, SC and Seven Lakes, NC before moving to Ocala, FL in 1995. Eldon enjoyed playing golf, but still found his greatest joy in his community service to others. He always said his greatest highlight in his retirement years was his association and membership in the Kingdom of the Sun (KOS) Chapter of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) where he served on the Board of Directors and as President. Eldon also established their "Stuff the Bus" program to supply school supplies to those in need.
Eldon is predeceased by his father, Arthur Kunze and his beloved mother Bertha Clarke Kunze.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris Davis Kunze and their three children, Dr. Richard S. Kunze, Dr. Kenneth C. Kunze, and Diane Kunze Vaglio. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for living his life with integrity, honesty, service to God and those in need, and his compassion and love of his family.
Memorial services will be held at the Timber Ridge Chapel of Hiers- Baxley Funeral Sevices, 9695 SW 110th St, Ocala, on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11:30 AM.
The family has requested donations to the American Red Cross to assist the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Condolences may be given at:
