POPE, JOSEPH F., 82
Ocala - Joseph F. Pope, 82, of Ocala, FL went to be with his Lord from his home in Ocala on Tuesday, October 15, 2013.
He was born in Pontiac, MI on April 1, 1931; son to the late Jess and Ethel (Williamson) Pope. Joe served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1953. He then joined General Motors Corporation in Flint, MI and remained there serving in various capacities until retiring in 1986 with 30 years service.
He was an active member of the former U.A.W. Local 659 of Flint, MI. Along with his late wife Mildred Faye (Elder) Pope he came to Ocala in 1983. He was a lifelong member of the VFW and was active with Ocala VFW Post#4209 and had served with the Post Honorguard.
Joe was an avid firearms expert and belonged to the Ocala Gun Club. He loved to fish and earlier in life enjoyed all winter sports, including hunting. He was a lover of classic cars.
Joe was also preceded in death by his first wife Laura Lou (Davis) Pope; and two sons, Timothy Lee Pope and Michael Keith Pope; brother Bobbie Lee Pope and sister Gertie Gene Harris.
Joe is survived by his children, Joseph Frank Pope, Jr. and his wife Delores of Columbiaville, MI, Gary W. Pope, Sr. and his wife Dawn of Ocala; Sharon Kinney and her husband Gary of Flint, MI and Yvonne Pilon and her husband Brad of Flint, MI. Also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and many other family members.
Family will receive their friends at the TimberRidge Chapel of Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 9695 SW 110th St., Ocala on Friday, October 18th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.. The funeral service will be held in the TimberRidge Chapel on Saturday, October 19th at 2 p.m.. Burial will be at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell with full military honors.
