Ocala - Colonel (Ret.) Arthur A. Gottlieb passed away on February 4, 2013.
Art was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 26, 1916. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University in May 1937 and was commissioned into the United States Infantry where he served with the 18th Infantry Regiment and the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Georgia. During his career he served on MacArthur's General Headquarters Staff; at the French Command and Staff School in Paris, France; at the U.S. Army Pacific Headquarters in Hawaii; at the Second U.S. Army Headquarters in Ft. Meade, Maryland; on the Military Assistance Advisory Group in Laos; with the Allied Forces of Central Europe in France and The Netherlands; and as Professor of Military Science at Penn State University
. He retired in June 1971.
Art was an avid golfer and a past member of the Centre Hills Country Club in State College, Pennsylvania; the Atlantis Country Club in Atlantis, Florida and the Golden Hills Golf and Turf Club in Ocala. He loved his alma mater and was the president of the Gold Coast Penn State Alumni Association from 1973 to 1986.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 42 years, Helen; his nephew and niece Roger Berg of New York and Debbie Berg of California. Other family members who will miss him are Jeffrey Woodring of Ocala and Carole Lynn Woodring of Madison, Connecticut. He is also survived by three granddaughters and a great granddaughter.
Art will be laid to rest at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ocala National Golf Club on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 beginning at 3:00 pm.
