Ocala - John R. Gale passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Ocala, Florida. He was a devoted father to his children and a loving husband. He was born on February 9, 1927 and grew up in Oklawaha, Florida. He attended Summerfield School, graduated from Weirsdale High in 1944 and attended the University of Florida. He joined the U.S. Marines in 1944 as a private and retired after 27 years as Lieutenant Colonel. He served in Korea, Vietnam and China. He was proud to have commanded a marine infantry unit in the DMZ in Korea in 1953. After retiring he worked at the Marion County Courthouse and later for C.A. Reed Co. in Williamsport, PA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Friendly Fellowship Class. He was also a member of the Military Officers Association of America.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, his children Ric (Kathy), Barbara (Don Kasel), Robert, Tina (Jeff Vaudrin), Mark (Carrie), and Greg, as well as 11 grandchildren, and his sister, Bonnie Branson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Jeffrey.
There will be a burial service with military funeral honors on 12/28/12 at 12:30 PM at the Florida National Cemetery: 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, FL 33513.
The memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, 12/29/12 at the First United Methodist Church: 1126 E. Silver Spring Blvd, Ocala FL 34470.
