Ocala - Karen Frances Arens 68, surrounded by her three sons, passed from this life Thursday at the Legacy Hospice House in Ocala.
Ms. Arens was born in South Bend, Indiana on Sept. 1, 1945 to the late Al and Mary (Kovascics) Lott. She attended St. Mary's High School in South Bend, where she graduated in 1963. She attended Purdue University where she graduated with degrees in mathematics and computer science in 1967. She was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Ms. Arens worked as a systems programmer, teacher and manager at McDonnell Douglas, Washington University, Computer Educational Services (which she founded), Citicorp, and IBM, where she retired from after 16 years.
She was a loved and active member of the On Top of the World community in Ocala and was an avid woodworker, gardener, dog lover, Mahjong player, Bridge and Somba player, and golfer. She had a special love for line dancing at the OTOW Square during Friday happy hours.
She is survived by her three loving sons, Mark Richard Arens, Daniel John Arens, and Michael Robert Arens; her loving brother and sister-in-law Robert Alan Lott and Kate Ann Lott; and her five grandchildren, Carter Arens, Chloe Arens, Taggart Arens, Delaney Arens, and Fletcher Arens.
Remembrance gathering will start at noon this Saturday, September 7th in the chapel at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church at 5 S.E. 17th Street in Ocala, Florida. Memorial Mass will immediately follow at 1:30 pm at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church.
Ms. Arens' wishes were for donations to be made to the in lieu of flowers.
