LAMARA LYNN RIGGS, 65
Ocala - Lynn Glanzer, wife of Chuck Glanzer, died on February 7, 2013, at the Johnson City Medical Center after an illness of several months.
She was born on March 20, 1947, in Scottsville, Kentucky, to Ernest D. Riggs (deceased) and Helen Acton Riggs. The family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, later that year where they resided until the summer of 1964 when Ocala became their home.
Lynn graduated from Ocala High School in 1965. She received her bachelor's degree from Radford College, Radford, Virginia, in 1969 and later earned a master's degree from the University of Florida
Beginning in August of 1970, she began her career in the Marion County School System with her first assignment as a teacher at South Ocala Elementary. After being a classroom teacher at several schools throughout the school district for many years, in 1987 she became an administrator. She was an assistant principal at Reddick-Collier and then Emerald Shores before becoming the principal at East Marion, which was then followed by Dr. N.H. Jones where she laid the foundation for the Magnet Program. Lynn's final assignment was planning and overseeing the opening of Saddlewood in 1999.
After faithfully serving as an educator in Marion County for over 30 years, Lynn retired in 2000. During her retirement, Lynn was a volunteer for Guardian Ad Litem in Ocala, as well as a similar program (CASA) in Tennessee.
For the past six years, home to Lynn and Chuck has been near Johnson City, Tennessee, in the foothills of the Appalachian chain; Cherokee National Forest. With the help of Chuck, every year she put on display a beautiful garden and always had a freezer full of the harvest. She loved her family, her friends and enjoyed reading, writing short stories, painting, scrapbooking - even had her own 4-wheeler. The simple things of life brought her great pleasure.
In addition to her husband of 44 years, Lynn is survived by her mother, Helen Riggs, Belleview, Florida; son, Christopher (Amanda), Ketchikan, Alaska; daughter, Julie, Atlantic Beach, North Carolina; sister, Dona (Craig) Lynn; and brothers, Dr. John (Kathi) Riggs; and Jim (Martha) Riggs; niece, Randi Riggs; nephews, Matthew Lynn, Tanner Riggs, Jay Riggs; and sister-in-law, Dot Glanzer.
