Ocala - Mr. Robert W. (Bob White) Yancey, 90, of Ocala, died Friday, November 23, 2012, at the Legacy Hospice House.
Born in Manassas, VA, he moved to Marion County when he was one year old. He was a graduate of the University of Florida, and was a chemical engineer for 20 plus years for the DuPont Corporation. He was the first blueberry grower in Marion County, and owned and operated Yancey's Blueberry Farm from 1960-1990. He served as President of the Florida Blueberry Growers Association, and was a member of the Michigan Blueberry Growers Association.
In addition to being a Gator fan, he was an avid golfer, and for many years attended the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II, and he attended Woodside Baptist Church in Ocala.
His survivors include his wife, Judith, of Ocala; sons, Dr. Robert Yancey, Gainesville, and James Yancey, Bluffton, SC; stepson Craig Stewart, Ocala; sister Ann Baursfeld, Washington, DC; and six grandchildren, Mark, Mitchell, Suzanna, Robert, Andrew, and Eric.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, with Pastor Dwight Stevenson officiating.
