Salt Springs, FL - William A. "Bill" Doss Sr., age 78, of Salt Springs, FL, passed away Friday, 10/11/2013 in Ocala, FL. He was born July 23, 1935 in Lawrenceburg, TN USA to his parents, Richard and Lassie Doss. Bill was the 4th of 11 children.
He married Ms. Jacqueline E. Sanders Thanksgiving day 1966. They had 5 children. He spent seven years in service to his country in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. He was stationed in Beirut, Lebanon in 1958 and three years in Germany. He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary medal. He built a homestead outside The Ocala National Forest in 1968, and lived in the area ever since. He was a General Contractor and built all across the state of Florida. He was consulting engineer on numerous projects including public schools and correctional facilities.
Bill was a Life Member and past post Commander of V.F.W. post 10208 in Salt Springs. He also belonged to M.O.C. "Crystal Bugs" of Crystal River and served as Quarter Master of MOC District 7r. He was a charter member of 82nd Airborne Division Association of The North Central FL All Airborne chapter.
Bill will be remembered by his loving wife Jacqueline, and their children, Deborah (Moore) of Ocala, Linda (Schmitt) and William Jr. of Summerville, SC. Their Grandchildren Amanda, Brandon, Brittney, Kevin Jr., Miranda, Stephen, Elizabeth, Isabelle, and Alisa and two Great Grandchildren. He is survived by five sisters, Marcia Hardy, Martha Hopkins, Marjorie Borden, Mary Sue Darley, Marion Faye Akers, and four brothers, Richard A. Doss, Jr., Johnny D., Joel Millard, and Ray Allen along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents Richard and Lassie Doss, his sister Margaret Cooper, and two sons David and Stephen Bauswell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation Monday 10/14/2013 between 5-7pm at Roberts Funeral Home 606 Southwest 2nd Avenue, Ocala. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 12:30 at the same location. He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, in Bushnell, FL.
