Williston - William "Bill" Newell Mikell, Sr., 88, after a courageous battle with cancer went to be with his Lord on January 28, 2013.
He was born on December 26, 1924 to Edward Lacy and Maggie Lynn Mikell. He is a distinguished decorated veteran of three wars. He went into the Civilian Conservation Corp. at an early age building roads and bridges. After that he went to welding school, and then worked in the shipyards in Mobile, AL. and Jacksonville, FL. supporting the war effort.
At 18 he was drafted into the Army and World War II. Later he enlisted in the Air Force where he served until retiring with 20 years of service in 1966.
He was an avid outdoorsman; enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening his whole life and enjoyed going on cruises. He was a devoted member of the Morriston Church of Christ, DAV and a life long Levy County native. He was also an active participant for many years with Relay for Life.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother and brother Alvin Mikell. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Dorothy L. Mikell, their four children, William (Billy) and his wife Missy of Searcy, AR; Margaret Mikell of Williston, FL.; Edward and his wife Teresa of Merdian, MS.; Wayne and his wife Sharon of Ocala, FL.; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; his brothers Lewis of Gallopolis, OH., Dayton Mikell of Gainesville, FL.; sisters Dorcas Moody of Crawford, FL. and Annie Lou (Patty) Warrick of Tallahassee, FL.
Visitation services will be held at Knauff Funeral Home, Williston, FL. on January 31, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on February 1, 2013 at 2:30 pm at Knauff Funeral Home, Williston. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Morriston, FL.
